30-year-old unemployed jump in front of Akufo-Addo’s car in attempt of killing himself

A resident of Nungua in the Greater Accra Region, Seth Nana Amovi, has been put before an Accra Circuit Court for attempting to take his life by jumping in front of President Akufo-Addo’s convoy.
According to a report sighted by Atinkanews.com on Ghanaweb.com, DSP Amegah told the court presided over by Her Honour Harriet Akweley Quaye that, Mr. Amovi, believed to be in his 30’s, on August 7, 2018, hid himself at the Ako-Adjei interchange awaiting the president’s convoy.

When the convoy got to the interchange, Mr. Amovi jumped in front of the vehicles and the convoy had to stop abruptly to avoid knocking him down.
DSP Amegah went ahead and told the court that the suspect used his hands to hit the bonnet of the president’s vehicle a couple of times and later jumped onto the bonnet of the president’s car.
Mr. Amovi was arrested by police officers stationed at the presidency who were with the president at the time and was taken to the police station.

Amovi admitted to wanting to commit the dastardly act and added that he had been looking for an opportunity to meet the president for some time now but all his attempts failed.
DSP Amegah told the court that the police, upon interrogation had suspicion that Amovi may be mentally unfit putting is actions into account.
He therefore asked the court not to grant Amovi’s request to meet the president and further prayed the court to make an order for the suspect to be taken to the hospital for psychiatric check.

Mr. Seth Nana Amovi would be brought back to the court after the result of the examination has been released by psychiatric doctors.
