2 Catholic nuns get pregnant on missionary trip to Africa

The Catholic Church has launched an investigation after two missionary nuns became pregnant while working in Africa.

The two women, who belonged to separate religious orders in Sicily, are expecting children despite their vows of chastity.

The first nun who is 34 years old,
discovered her pregnancy when she complained about stomach pain and went to the hospital.

The other woman, who is a mother superior, left for her home country of Madagascar after she was determined to be one-month pregnant, the Italian outlet reported. Her age was not released.

There is consternation at this news. It appears that both women were back in their home nations and obviously had some form of sexual encounter,” a church source in Rome is quoted as saying.

“An investigation has been launched. They both breached strict rules of chastity but the welfare of their children is uppermost.”

This comes after Pope Francis earlier this year admitted that the Catholic Church has an ongoing issue with priests and even bishops sexually abusing nuns.
