Rudven Prout : Man thrown off cliff dies of injuries; suspect questioned

A man who was rescued after being beaten and thrown off a cliff has succumbed to his injuries.

A suspect has since surrendered to the police and is being questioned about the incident.

The victim, identified as Rudven Prout of San Juan, was rescued on Friday morning some 200 feet down a precipice off the North Coast Road.

The victim told police that on Wednesday night he had been assaulted by two men he knew, and then thrown off the cliff. The man appeared to have lain there for several days.

The injured man was then taken for medical treatment at the Port of Spain General Hospital. He reportedly suffered multiple lacerations, broken bones, and fractures.

However, Prout succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday morning.

A 29-year-old man surrendered himself to police custody after learning he was being sought for questioning in connection with a San Juan man who was thrown off a cliff last week.

The suspect, police said, surrendered around 2.45 pm on Monday at the Central Police Station to Sgt Sunil Bharath and WPC Rose.

After he was questioned briefly, he was handed over to officers of the North Eastern Division, who are continuing inquiries under the supervision of Snr Sup Phillip.
