Singer Wizkid lampoons Nigerian Senate for proposing generator ban

Nigerian singer Ayodeji Balogun popularly known as Wizkid has commented on the proposed ban on the use of generators by Nigerians, by the Nigerian Senate.

The bill proposing 10 years jail term for generator importers and sellers in Nigeria passed the first reading in the Senate.

Titled ‘A Bill for an Act to prohibit/ban the importation/use of generating sets to curb the menace of environmental (air) pollution and to facilitate the development of power sector’, it was sponsored by Senator Enagi Bima (APC-Niger).

According to the bill, “Any person who imports generating sets; or knowingly sells generating sets shall be guilty of an offence and be liable on conviction to be sentenced to imprisonment for a term not less than 10 years.

In his reaction to the bill, The music star in a post shared on micro blogging platform, Twitter, condemned the move to send people caught importing generators into the country to jail for 10 years.

Wizkid in his tweet noted that before any of the move becomes a law in the country, residents should at least enjoy 24/7 supply of electricity.
