Nigerian President’s Chief of Staff dies from coronavirus

Sad news that has reached us confirms Abba Kyari, Chief of Staff to Nigerian’s President Muhammadu Buhari has passed on after battling with complications related to the Coronavirus.

Announcing his death, presidential spokesman Femi Adesina indicated that Abba Kyari died on Friday, April 17.

“The Presidency regrets to announce the passage of the Chief of Staff to the President, Mallam Abba Kyari. The deceased had tested positive to the ravaging COVID-19 and had been receiving treatment. But he died on Friday, April 17, 2020“

Femi Adesina tweeted at 12:44 am on Saturday, 18 April 2020.

The tweet says; “Chief of Staff to the President, Mallam Abba Kyari, passes on. May God rest his soul. Amen. Funeral arrangements to be communicated soon”

Kyari, who was in his 70s and had health problems including diabetes, was the top official aide to 77-year-old President Muhammadu Buhari and one of the most powerful men in the country of Nigeria.

According to sources, he tested positive for the deadly coronavirus in March after travelling to Germany with a delegation of other Nigerian officials for meetings with Siemens AG.
