Serious tension at Abeka Court over murdered musician

A few weeks ago, news went viral that a landlord shot his tenant dead for not vacating his room after failing to renew his rent.

The suspect, Victor Stephen Nana Kankam, allegedly shot the victim, Benjamin Okyere, a budding musician, four times.

There is tension at the Abeka District Court as family of the dead musician who was allegedly murdered by his landlord at Ofankor in Accra, besiege the court.

Family and friends of the ‘gone too soon’ musician wore red and black attires and were wailing over the the gruesome manner in which the deceased was murdered.

Some of them carried a banner with the inscription ‘Justice For Benjamin Okyere’ while others wore nose masks with the same inscription and a press picture of the dead musician.

As of the time this story was executed, the accused was still in the police van that brought him to the court as the family and friends rushed on the vehicle just as it was about to enter the court premises.
The driver of the police car was smart enough and made a quick u-turn to pack on the other side of the road to cool tensions.

The accused, Victor Stephen Nana Kankam, was making his second appearance before the court.

While it is still unclear what triggered the deadly incident, there are rumours that the landlord killed the tenant over a woman.
