Total number of health workers infected with Covid-19 revealed.

A total of 181 health workers particularly nurses and midwives have been established to have contracted novel Coronavirus.

This was made known by Joseph Akrampah, Public Relations Officer of the Registered Nurses and Midwives Association.

Speaking in an interview on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem morning show, Mr Akrampah gave reasons for the contraction of COVID-19 by 181 nurses and midwives.

Mr. Akrampah disclosed that the infections were due to the increasing number of asymptomatic persons visiting and having interaction with nurses and midwives at the hospitals, clinics and Community-Based Health Planning and Services across the country.

According to him asymptomatic persons can’t just be taken to the doctors for treatment and so what we normally do is to take their blood samples for Covid-19 testing, and while they await the test results they are taken to the wards and treated as persons with normal health complications and it is through that which most of our nurses and midwives have contracted the disease,

Out of the total 181 health workers established to have been infected the novel coronavirus, 163 are nurses with the remaining 18 being midwives. A nurse is confirmed to have died from the disease.
