Ibrahim Mahama drags Chairman Wontumi to court; demands GHC5M for defamation

Mr. Ibrahim Mahama, a Ghanaian business tycoon has sued Bernard Antwi Boasiako better known Chairman Wontumi, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for slander

This latest action by Ibrahim Mahama follows a supposition made by the politician that Hajia4Real is the girlfriend of Ibrahim Mahama.

Chairman Wontumi, claimed that Ibrahim Mahama, was the one who bought the luxurious Range Rover gifted Hajia4Real on her birthday.

The Chairman allegedly claimed that the business magnate is a beneficiary from stolen state funds at the time his brother, John Mahama, was President.

According to the writ, Mr. Mahama quotes Chairman Wontumi, who was speaking on Wontumi TV, as saying:

“He has bought a car, it is said he has bought a car for Hajia for Real. Then he has bought a house and given it to her in addition, then he has snatched Kenpong’s girl. Because the money that [he has], it was when we just came into power, that his brother went and stole money for him. Do you understand?”

An electronic copy of the defamation suit making rounds has the document number as GJ/1213/2020 in the High Court/Circuit Court of Justice.

The defendants mentioned are Bernard Antwi Boasiako (Chairman Wontumi), Wontumi Multimedia Co. Ltd (Wontumi Communications) and Kenneth Mensah.

Kenneth Mensah, the editor of daillymailgh.com has also been sued and is facing the same defamation claims for publishing Chairman Wontumi slanderous comments on his website.

Ibrahim Mahama is demanding GHc 5 million in damages for the said defamatory comments.

Mr. Ibrahim is also demanding an unqualified apology and “retraction of the said (defamatory) statements within seven days of judgement.”
