The relationship between John Dramani Mahama and the late President Rawlings is close.
Both leaders, though had some rocky times, have captained the boat of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) over the years.
His death (Jerry Rawlings), has sent shock waves to the NDC. With just a few days to the elections, the power and influence of Jerry Rawlings, had he been alive, could have gained them some political points. But he is gone.
A book of condolence has been opened at the residence of the late leader. Already, political heavyweights across the country are penning down their fondest memories and political wishes of the Late Jerry John Rawlings.
AtinkaNews.net cited a picture of the very handwriting of Former President, John Mahama which inscribed the pain and hopes of the NDC Flagbearer.
“Boss, It is difficult to come to terms with your shocking exit. But you’ve always been unconventional and acted on your own terms. The rest of us your comrades are left to mourn you. But beyond mourning your departure, we have a duty and responsibility to ensure that your person and your principles receive their deserved place in the history of Ghana. Leader of the Revolution, Founder of the 4th Republic and Midwife of the longest period of democratic governance in history and nobody can take that away.
Fare thee well, boss. JM.” the tribute read.
The Late Flt. Lt. Jerry John Rawlings died at the Intensive Care Unit of the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital at 10 AM on Thursday morning. Reports reveal the former president contracted the Coronavirus. His recovery from the virus was impaired by his underlying illness.
Meanwhile, President Akufo Addo has ordered all flags to hoist at half mast as a national week of mourning continues. A befitting burial is expected in the coming weeks – with a book of condolence opened at the Accra International Conference Center for all Ghanaians to pen down their tributes.
