Money rains for residents in Diepkloof, Soweto cash-in-transit Heist [Watch]

A cash-in-transit heist took place in Diepkloof, Soweto on Friday and was caught on video.. It rained money in the streets of Diepkloof, Soweto. Residents came to grab whatever they could get ahold of.

Yusuf Abramjee, the popular social media commentator, uploaded a video clip to Twitter. The video shows the burning wreck of a car alongside a cash-in-transit vehicle with its back door open.

People can be seen climbing into the back of the vehicle. Abramjee commented that the people didn’t understand the dangers of entering the wreck and how they are destroying evidence that could be used to catch the criminals.

He posted another clips of when the heist actually took place, gunshots can be heard and people in the area scatter then storm the area.

Police spokesperson Colonel Brenda Muridili told News24 the vehicle was targeted as it drove away from an intersection close to Extreme Park in Zone 2.

“A VW Polo rammed the cash vehicle on the driver’s side. It stopped in the middle island of Immink Drive, opposite Extreme Park, Zone 2, Diepkloof. A bakkie drove up, and the occupants opened fire on the cash van, prompting the driver and crew to get out,” Muridili said.

The perpetrators allegedly used explosives to bomb the armoured vehicle.

They fled the scene in three vehicles and made off with an undisclosed amount of money.

“A rifle belonging to the security guards was recovered in Baragwanath Road, Zone 2, Diepkloof,” Muridili said.
