Missing teen killed after being caught in shootout between suspect and police

A missing 15-year-old sought in an Amber Alert has been killed after being caught in a shootout between police and her murder-suspect father.

Police launched a days-long manhunt for suspect Anthony Graziano, 45, who they believed killed his estranged wife in Southern California on Monday before kidnapping his teenage daughter, Savannah.

The search ended on Tuesday afternoon after the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department received a 911 call about a possible sighting of Graziano’s white Nissan pickup truck in the Barstow area.

Officials engaged in a high-speed chase from Highway 58 through Interstate 15 towards Victorville, with Graziano firing back at deputies the entire time, police said.

The 45-year-old then drove off the road in Hesperia and opened fire on police.
.. He was killed in the resulting shootout and found dead in his truck.

Police said a person wearing tactical gear emerged from the vehicle’s passenger side and began running toward the officers.

Officials said the passenger, who they later identified as Savannah, collapsed “during the gunfire,” San Bernardino County Sheriff Shannon Dicus said on Tuesday.

The teen was transported to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
.. Dicus did not reveal who fired the fatal shots that killed Savannah.

During a Tuesday afternoon press conference, Dicus said there were “indications” the 15-year-old “may have also been involved in some of the fire exchange,” possibly “firing back at the deputies”.

Police recovered at least one firearm, a rifle inside the truck, at the scene…One deputy sustained non-life-threatening injuries and is expected to survive.

SEARCH FOR GRAZIANO Underway.

The search for Graziano and his teen daughter began when police responded to reports of gunfire near Fontana Elementary School on Monday morning.

At the scene, police found a woman suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

The woman, identified as 45-year-old Tracy Martinez, was transported to the hospital, where she died.

Police determined the shooting stemmed from a domestic violence incident and named Graziano the prime suspect.

The California Highway Patrol later issued an Amber Alert for the couple’s 15-year-old daughter, saying that Savannah was abducted and last seen with Graziano around the time of the Fontana shooting.
