Van Conner, an American rock musician best known for playing bass with Screaming Trees, was born on March 17, 1967, and passed away on January 18, 2023.

Conner formed the band Explosive Generation in high school with his brother Gary Lee Conner and Mark Pickerel as a bass player. With the addition of singer Mark Lanegan in 1985, the band evolved into Screaming Trees.

In the late 1980s, the band relocated from Ellensburg, Washington to Seattle to join the city’s burgeoning alternative rock scene. Conner was a member of Screaming Trees for seven studio albums before the band disbanded in 2000.

Conner formed the side project Solomon Grundy while still with Screaming Trees, in which he performed lead vocals and guitar. That band released an album in 1990, and Conner was also a member of Dinosaur Jr.’s live lineup at the time.

He later formed Gardener, a side project that released an album in 1999. After Screaming Trees disbanded, Conner worked as a session musician and formed several other alternative rock bands, including VALIS and Musk Ox.

Van Conner, bassist, and co-founder of Screaming Trees in the 1990s, died at 55.

According to a friend who revealed the incident , Van Conner died unexpectedly from a heart attack.
