:Tin Pei Ling is a Singaporean politician and businesswoman born on December 23, 1983 in Singapore.

She attended Crescent Girls’ School and Hwa Chong Junior College before enrolling at the National University of Singapore where she graduated with a Bachelor of Social Sciences degree with honours in psychology.

Tin Pei Ling also has Masters of Business Administration with University of Chicago Booth School of Business. Before entering mainstream politics, she was a senior associate at Ernst & Young.

As a member of the People’s Action Party (PAP), she made her political debut in the 2011 general election. She resigned from her position at Ernst & Young after winning the 2011 general election as a Member of Parliament.

She was part of a five-member PAP team led by Prime Minister Goh Chok Tong and was People’s Action Party’s youngest candidate during the 2011 general election.

Ling has been the Member of Parliament representing MacPherson SMC since 2015 and was previously the MacPherson division of Marine Parade GRC between 2011 and 2015.

She won the 2015 general election and defended her parliamentary seat in 2020, taking 71.74 per cent of the vote. Tin Pei Ling was latter appointed as Chair of the Government Parliamentary Committee for Communications and Information in the 14th Parliament.

In January 2023,  Ling made major headlines when she was joined ride-hailing and technology giant ‘Grab’ as its Singapore director of public affairs and policy.

When asked about her new job, she Tin directed queries to her new employer.

‘Grab’ in a statement said: “Pei Ling has deep on-ground understanding of digital economy and Smart Nation policy, and close ties with the local community. She will build partnerships and programmes to harness the positive potential of technology to create impact in Singapore.”

Prior to joining Grab,  Ling was chief executive of Business China, a non-profit organisation spearheaded by the Singapore Government and the Singapore Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

She left on December 2, 2022 after spending four-and-a-half years in the role, citing a desire to pursue interests in the private sector. The three-term MP remains part of Business China’s board of directors.

Tin Pei Ling is married to Ng How Yue. He was appointed Permanent Secretary to the Ministry of Law in December 2014 and as Second Permanent Secretary to the Ministry of Health in 1 January 2017.

Prior to that, Ng How Yue was Second Permanent Secretary to the Ministry of Trade & Industry in October 2011.
