Nathaniel Dixon is a 23-year-old man who has been arrested for allegedly shooting and killing Gonzalo Carrasco Jr., a 24-year-old Selma Police Officer, on Tuesday, January 31, 2023. What actually happened?
According to the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office, Gonzalo Carrasco Jr., 24, was the Selma officer slain in the line of duty on Tuesday, January 31, 2023. He was flagged down by a resident who said that a suspicious man was in front of a home on Pine Street, which is south of Rose Avenue and west of Highway 99.
When the officer got out of his patrol car and approached Dixon, the 23-year-old Dixon fired multiple rounds at the officer at around 11:45 a.m. and took off running. After being shot, Carrasco was taken to the Community Regional Medical Center, where he died about four hours later.
The 24-year-old officer, Gonzalo Carrasco Jr., is now survived by his parents, sisters, brother, and his girlfriend, who is currently pregnant with their child. His death marks the first line-of-duty death for the Selma Police Department since its formation in 1893.

The 23-year-old accused, Nathaniel Dixon, has a criminal background that includes charges for firearms possession, robbery, and drug possession. He has been arrested by Selma police on several occasions since 2019.
In 2020, Dixon was charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm, carrying a loaded firearm in public, carrying a concealed firearm, and possession of a controlled substance while armed. He was sentenced to five years and four months on March 7, 2022, but was released in September 2022. As a part of his release, he was placed on post-release community supervision for 2 years, 11 months, and 30 days as part of California’s AB 109 law, commonly known as prison realignment.
