Paul O’Grady was an English comedian, broadcaster, actor, writer and drag queen.
He achieved notability in the London gay scene during the 1980s with his drag queen persona Lily Savage, through which he gained broader popularity in the 1990s.

Paul O’Grady was born Paul James O’Grady. on June 14, 1955, in Birkenhead, Merseyside, England. He was the youngest of seven children and was raised in a Roman Catholic household.
Paul O’Grady Career
O’Grady’s career began in the late 1970s when he started performing as a drag queen under the stage name Lily Savage. He quickly gained a following and became a regular performer at venues across the UK. In 1989, he won the prestigious Perrier Comedy Award at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, which helped to launch his career in television.
O’Grady’s first major television role was as a presenter on the daytime show “The Big Breakfast” in the early 1990s. He quickly became known for his irreverent humor and larger-than-life personality, and he soon became one of the most popular presenters on British television.
In 2004, O’Grady launched his own chat show, “The Paul O’Grady Show,” which aired on ITV.

Meet Patrick And Mary
Paul O’Grady was born at St. Catherine’s Hospital in the Tranmere area of Birkenhead, Cheshire, now Merseyside to Patrick Grady (father) and Mary Savage (mother).
His father (1912–1973) was Irish and grew up in Ballincurry, County Roscommon, before moving to England in 1936 and settling in the working-class area of Birkenhead.
His name was changed from ‘Grady’ to “O’Grady” in a paperwork mistake when he joined the Royal Air Force, and he kept the new name.
His mother (1916–1988) was born in England to Irish immigrants from County Louth.
