Contrary to popular belief and norm, a white woman from New York City was caught on camera trying to steal a Black youngster’s rental bicycle.
The woman has now earned the nickname ‘Citi Bike Karen.’ The unforeseen incident happened over the weekend and some social media geniuses were quick enough to identify the white woman in the footage.
Citi Bike Karen fiasco was complicated further when the details of the perpetrator’s profession and workplace came to light.

Who is Citi Bike Karen?
Apparently, Karen is an employee of the NYC Health + Hospitals. Whether she works as a doctor or nurse is not yet known.
In the citi bike Karen video, the white woman appears to have an altercation with a young Black man over a rental citi bike.
The perpetrator, Karen, tries to wiggle the bike out of the unidentified Black man’s hands. When her initial attempt failed miserably, she started fake crying and screaming at the top of her lungs to intimidate the Black man.
Another man who caught the entire incident on camera reported that ‘citi bike Karen’ did not shed even a single tear and was easily switching back and forth between crying and shouting.
A white man donning scrubs came to Karen’s rescue and advised the young Black man to let her take the bike.
The unidentified Black individual responded by saying that the bike Karen is trying to steal from him is already associated with his account.
Citi bike Karen drama came to an end when she finally let go of the Black man’s bicycle and decided to take another one from the rack.
A Twitter user posted the citi bike Karen video on his account with the caption, “This lady tried her best to weaponize her tears, but when she realized it wasn’t going to work she switched it off and acted like nothing happened. This should be criminal.”

Social media users’ response to the footage was majorly negative. Some users compared the perpetrator to Carolyn Bryant, the white woman who cried wolf and caused Emmett Till’s murder.
Moreover, some viewers were smart enough to catch a glimpse of citi bike Karen’s ID card. She was identified as Sarah Jane Comrie, a medical physician’s assistant working with Bellevue Hospital.
Thankfully, most users condemned the white woman’s behavior, deeming it unethical, and an abuse of white privilege.
The Bellevue health system shared a statement regarding their employee’s infamous behavior.
They stated that whatever happened was wrong and they are reviewing the incident to ensure nothing like this happens in the future.
Furthermore, they highlighted that NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue is committed to providing the highest quality of care to all New Yorkers with dignity, cultural sensitivity, and compassion.
