What Happened to Susana Morales?
Susana’s family members told the police they hadn’t seen her since the evening of July 26, 2022. Several hours later in the day, Morales texted her mother to let her know she was heading home, but she never showed up, according to the police.
According to police spokeswoman Sgt. Jennifer Richter, Morales’ remains were found on Monday at Drowning Creek outside of Dacula, not far from the intersection of Ga. 316 and Drowning Creek Road.
According to detectives, Morales called her mother that evening at 9:40 p.m. to let her know she was going to her home on Windscape Village Lane.
Officials confirmed that Morales was moving in that direction between 10:07 and 10:21 p.m. based on an app on her phone, but detectives said they had reason to believe she got into a car.
Between 10:21 and 10:26 p.m., her phone indicated that she was close to Oak Loch Trace and Steve Reynolds Boulevard. Before it turned off or died, her phone kept pinging that location. Morales didn’t make it back home.

The 16-year-old Norcross girl, Susana Morales went missing on Monday, and Gwinnett County Police confirmed Wednesday afternoon that the remains found on Monday near Drowning Creek are those of the missing girl. In the year 2022, Susana Morales vanished on July 26.
She was found dead at 6:30 p.m. on February 6th, 2023, in some woods along Highway 316, close to Drowning Creek and the Barrow County line, according to authorities.
The Gwinnett Medical Examiners’ office conducted a DNA test on the remains and found Morales’ DNA there. The authorities have not revealed the cause of her death or any potential suspects.
