Joe Lieberman cause of death: What did the Former U.S. Senator die of?

Joe Lieberman, Former US Senator and vice presidential candidate has died at the age of 82, according to a statement from his family.

“His beloved wife, Hadassah, and members of his family were with him when he passed,” the statement said. “Senator Lieberman’s love of God, his family and America endured throughout his life of service in the public interest.”

Joe Lieberman’s death was caused by complications resulting from a fall, according to a statement released by his family and obtained by CBS News.

His brother-in-law Ary Freilich said that Mr. Lieberman’s fall occurred at his home in the Riverdale section of the Bronx and that he died at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital in Upper Manhattan.

Who was Joe Lieberman?

Joseph Lieberman was a United States senator from Connecticut from 1989 to 2013. He was the Democratic Party’s nominee for vice president in the 2000 U.S. presidential election.

Lieberman was officially listed as an independent Democrat during his final term in office and caucused with and chaired committees for the Democratic Party.

Lieberman introduced and championed the Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell Repeal Act of 2010 and legislation that led to the creation of the Department of Homeland Security.

He also opposed the public health insurance option during the debate on the Affordable Care Act.

Lieberman had three children from two marriages; his first marriage ended in divorce.
