Sergey Brin is an American entrepreneur and computer scientist who co-founded the multi-billion dollar search engine called Google.

He co-founded the company with Larry Page, a classmate at Standford’s computer science graduate program.

Brin was the president of Google’s parent company, Alphabet Inc., until stepping down from the role on December 3, 2019. He and Page remain at Alphabet as co-founders, controlling shareholders, and board members.

As of March 2024, Bloomberg Billionaires Index and Forbes estimate that Brin’s net worth is $119 billion, making him the 10th-richest person in the world.

Early life

Sergey Mikhailovich Brin was born on August 21, 1973, in Moscow in the Soviet Union, to Russian Jewish parents, Mikhail and Eugenia Brin, both graduates of Moscow State University (MSU).

His father is a retired mathematics professor at the University of Maryland, and his mother is a researcher at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center.

When he was just 6 years old, Sergey and his family escaped Russia to save themselves from Jewish persecution. They eventually landed in Maryland where his father was hired as a math professor at the University of Maryland.

Sergey showed exceptional talent in math from a young age, which was nurtured by his father’s tutoring. This instilled an interest in computers and analytical skills.

Sergey Brin’s marriage and wedding

Sergey Brin, the co-founder of Google, has been married twice: Brin wedded Anne Wojcicki, a biotech analyst and entrepreneur, in May 2007. They welcomed a son in late 2008 and a daughter in late 2011.

In August 2013, it was announced that Brin and his wife were living separately after Brin had an extramarital affair with Google Glass’s marketing director Amanda Rosenberg. In June 2015, Brin and Wojcicki finalized their divorce.

Sergey Brin married Nicole Shanahan, a legal tech founder, on November 7, 2018. They had a daughter later that year.

However, the couple separated on December 15, 2021, and Brin filed for divorce on January 4, 2022. The divorce was finalized in the summer of 2023.

Anne Wojcicki is an American entrepreneur who co-founded and is CEO of the personal genomics company 23andMe. She founded the company in 2006 with Linda Avey and Paul Cusenza. She is a co-founder and board member of the Breakthrough Prize.

Wojcicki was born in Palo Alto, California, and has two older sisters—Susan Wojcicki, former CEO of YouTube, and Janet Wojcicki, an anthropologist and epidemiologist. Her maternal grandparents were Russian Jewish immigrants.

Her parents are Esther Wojcicki (née Hochman), an educator and journalist, and Stanley Wojcicki, a Polish-born physics professor emeritus at Stanford University. The three sisters grew up on Stanford’s campus. When she was fourteen, she learned how to figure skate, and later started playing ice hockey.

Wojcicki attended Gunn High School in Palo Alto where she edited the school newspaper The Oracle, and won a scholarship for her sports stories. She received a bachelor of science in biology at Yale University in 1996.

Wojcicki married Google co-founder Sergey Brin in May 2007. They have a son, born in 2008, and a daughter born in late 2011. They separated in 2013 and divorced in 2015. In July 2019, Wojcicki gave birth to her third child, a daughter, through sperm donation

Nicole Shanahan is an American technologist and attorney. She is the running mate of Robert F. Kennedy Jr. in his 2024 independent presidential campaign.

Nicole Ann Shanahan was born September 16, 1985 in Placer County, California and grew up in Oakland, California.

Her father, who died in 2014, was an American of German and Irish descent. She said that her mother, who was born in China, worked as a maid before becoming an accountant. She emigrated to the United States from Guangzhou City in the 1980s.

Shanahan attended Saint Mary’s College High School before moving to Washington state, where she earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Puget Sound. Studying Asian studies, economics, and Mandarin Chinese, she worked as a paralegal and patent specialist (the latter role at defensive patent aggregator RPX Corp.) before continuing her education at Santa Clara University School of Law. She graduated with a Juris Doctor in 2014.

In 2013, Shanahan married Jeremy Asher Kranz, a San Francisco Bay Area investor and finance executive; they divorced in 2015.

Shanahan met Sergey Brin, the co-founder of Google, in the summer of 2014, at a yoga festival in Lake Tahoe; they married in 2018. They have a daughter together, born in 2018. Shanahan and Brin separated in December 2021, and Brin filed for divorce in January 2022.

According to various reports Sergey filed for divorce in the weeks after Nicole allegedly had an affair with Elon Musk, one of Sergey’s oldest friends and business partners. In a court filing Nicole reportedly requested a settlement payout worth at least $1 billion.

Sergey Brin’s wife Children

Sergey Brin has three children: Benji and Chloe Wojin are the children of Sergey Brin and his first wife, Anne Wojcicki.

His third child, a daughter, was born to his second wife, Nicole Shanahan, in late 2018, but her name is not publicly known.
