Dallas hospital shooting — A gunman opened fire Saturday morning in a maternity ward at Methodist Dallas Medical Center, killing two nurses.

As per media reports, the two nurses were found wounded in the labour and delivery area of the hospital. Both the nurses killed were deployed in the maternity ward . Reports also confirmed that the suspect was shot and injured by a police officer.

The suspect was identified as Nestor Hernandez, who was captured by the Methodist Health System Police. The 30-year-old man was booked for capital murder.

According to Fox News, Nestor Hernandez was a history sheeter who was on parole for robbery. The report also mentioned that the suspect had an ankle monitor while he committed the heinous crime that killed two nurses.

Hernandez was transported to another hospital for treatment. Dallas Police Chief Eddie Garcia tweeted that the shooting was a result of the failure of the criminal justice system. Garcia further said that the department would do everything to support the investigation.

Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson wrote in a tweet that the residents of Dallas would be there for the deceased nurses’ loved ones and would seek swift justice. In an official statement, Texas Nurses Association CEO Dr Serena Bumpus emphasised the need to protect health workers, calling out legislators.
