Healy, an All-Ireland champion swimmer at age nine, decided to take up guitar at the age of thirteen. She taught herself to play using her mother’s guitar and from that point on started writing her own songs.

She chose to take a year off after completing her education at age 18 and work as a medical secretary. At Mary Immaculate College, she continued her studies in nursing and primary teaching before deciding, at the age of 23, to follow her passion for music.

Healy started her musical career by singing and playing guitar in Irish bars and clubs, both alone and with bands. She was the 2004 and 2006 Glinsk Song Contest champion for Ireland. She performed as Brian Kennedy’s backup singer on “Every Song Is a Cry for Love” at the Eurovision Song Contest in 2006, representing Ireland.

Healy believed she lacked a clear direction in her career, despite the fact that she was gradually becoming a successful independent solo artist in her own Ireland. She self-produced and recorded her debut extended play, Sorry, in the middle of 2006. From it, the Saturdays’ hit “HigherB-side, “‘s “Had It with Today,” was re-recorded.

The tracks “So Long,” “Raider of My Sleep,” and “I Love You” are all on the CD. In order to obtain more exposure and performance experience, Healy traveled to London in 2007. She then landed an audition for The Saturdays, which was both her first audition for a major label and her first abroad. At the time, Healy was still having difficulty finding significant success.

Una Healy career

As a part of the five-piece girl group The Saturdays, which is signed to Fascination and Polydor Records, she first gained notoriety in 2008. She performed in the Eurovision Song Contest in 2006 as Ireland’s representative, collaborating with Brian Kennedy on the song “Every Song Is a Cry for Love,” finishing ninth overall.

Healy then went for a Saturdays tryout in 2007, having failed to find success in her home country. She started recording music and releasing a lot of hits after passing her audition.

The band later signed a new record deal with Geffen Records after experiencing great success in the UK. Following the signing of a contract with Island Def Jam Records and Mercury Records for the distribution of their music in the US, Healy and the rest of the group released their first UK number-one hit, “What About Us.”

When she released her debut extended play, Sorry, in 2006, Healy made an earlier attempt at a solo career. Despite the EP’s failure, one of its songs was re-recorded and used as the B-side of the band’s song “Higher.”

After wrapping off their Greatest Hits Live! tour in 2014, The Saturdays made the decision to go on hiatus. As a result, Healy accepted other television opportunities, such as hosting Una’s Dream Ticket, participating in Splashsecond !’s season, and serving as a judge on Let’s Get Gold.

She also started serving as a judge on RTÉ’s The Voice of Ireland, where she remained for the fourth and fifth seasons. With her act Patrick James, she won the competition in her first season (2015), and she finished third in the fifth.

Healy switched from The Saturdays’ pop and dance content to a country music-influenced approach as she wrote and recorded her solo album while pursuing a career in television.

The Waiting Game, an album by Healy, was made available in February 2017. In March 2018, she issued the single “Never See Me Cry.”
