Who Was Julie Johannessen?

Julie Johannessen, a 21-year-old Fredrikstad, Norway native, came to TCU to join the famed rifle team. Johannessen comes from a family of shooters, and she frequently spoke highly of Camilla, who competes for Nebraska in the rifle team. She would make jokes about competitions among the family members to see who was the best shot.

By helping TCU shoot against the Navy to open the 2022–23 season with an aggregate team score of 4758, she soon established herself as a prominent figure in the rifle world. Johannessen earned her first air rifle perfect score of 600 in January against UTEP, making her the fifth Horned Frog in history.

She would outperform herself the following weekend at the Patriot Rifle Championships when she scored a 598 to break the NCAA record in small bore, an incredible feat for any shooter, much less a freshman. The following day, she used an air gun to shoot another immaculate 600.

With 1198, she also broke the NCAA record for an individual’s total score. Johannessen made shooting perfect 600s over two weekends for the first time in NCAA history. Julie won an individual air rifle championship that weekend in a conference competition as well. Her assistance helped TCU win the conference championship.
