The passing of Kiernan “AKA” Forbes and friend and former manager Tebello “Tibza” Motsoane has been the only notable headline that the country has been dealing with. This is as the passing of the two individuals shook the country as details on their passing were shared.
As it is currently reported, AKA and Tibz were gunned down at close range by two gunmen who walked up to them after they were walking out of Durban restaurant Wish.
Currently, while there is footage of the events that occurred just after the shooting, it is believed that the SAPS and AKA’s family are the only ones that have been granted access to the CCTV footage which was recorded outside of the restaurant.
Moreover, due to the bizarre circumstances surrounding the passing of AKA. The Tembe family has been looked at with some suspicion, which could explain their recent PR move.
The Anele Tembe family on AKA’s passing
As soon as it was discovered that the alleged hit on rapper AKA was conducted in Durban. Speculation quickly pin-pointed the Anele Tembe family as the most likely suspects. This is as AKA was traditionally betrothed to their then 22-year-old daughter, Anele “Nellie” Tembe.
But back in 2021, Anele met a tragic end when it was reported that she had taken her life by jumping out of a hotel balcony in Cape Town. The only witness to the suicide being AKA, who when speaking about the sequence of events alleged that he was not in the room when Anele decided to throw herself over the balcony.
Due to the mystery surrounding Anele’s passing, the matter was turned over to the SAPS to investigate. However, two years later and there has still been no resolution. As such, there was the assumption that the Tembe family might have put out a hit due to the influence they hold in Durban which AKA had not visited in some time. Moreover, during this visit, he was consistently confirming his location.
As such, the Tembe family has released their own official statement in light of the speculation of the involvement. The statement in question does not address the rumours. But instead pays tribute to what could have been their son-in-law if not for the tragic events of April 2021.
Moreover, even ahead of the official statement by the Tembe family. Anele’s father Moses Tembe was already given word on his and his family’s reaction to the news of AKA’s passing. At the time, Moses was believed to have expressed a “deep pain” at the news of the passing of what could have been his son-in-law.
But it seems that the public has not forgotten that this was the same man or family that had invited AKA to Nellie’s funeral and had him sitting alone. Moreover, he did not get a chance to share a eulogy during the proceedings.
However, when Moses did share his eulogy, he seemed to suggest that his daughter was taken by alleged substance abuse combined with her already established mental health issues and the matter of toxicity of her’s and AKA’s relationship.
