World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) legend The Iron Sheik, known for his on-stage rivalry with Hulk Hogan, has died at the age of 81.
The news of his passing was announced on his Twitter account, and his family released a statement expressing their sadness but also celebrating his enduring legacy.

Who was Iron Sheik?
Hossein Khosrow Ali Vaziri, widely known as The Iron Sheik, was born on March 15, 1942, in Damghan, Iran.
In 1968, The Iron Sheik competed for a spot on the Greco-Roman wrestling team for the Summer Olympics.
He later moved to the United States where he worked as an assistant coach for two Olympic teams.
In 1971, the Iranian wrestler became a gold medalist after winning the Amateur Athletic Union Greco-Roman wrestling competition.
The following year, he landed a role as an assistant coach for the USA team during the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich, Germany.
Following his Olympic involvement, The Sheik went on to become a professional wrestler.
In 1979, Sheik made his debut during the WWF Battle Royal match where he won against Bob Backlund.
Throughout the 80s and 90s, The Iron Sheik held the WWE World Heavyweight Championship.
In 2005, he was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame. In April 2010, The Iron Sheik retired from wrestling to spend time with his family.

The Iron Sheik cause of death
On June 7, 2023, Vaziri’s family took to his social media accounts to announce his death.
Though his family shared the news, no cause of death had been revealed.
The post read: “Today, we gather with heavy hearts to bid farewell to a true legend, a force of nature, and an iconic figure who left an incredible mark on the world of professional wrestling.
“It is with great sadness that we share the news of the passing of The Iron Sheik, but was also take solace in knowing that he departed this world peacefully, leaving behind a legacy that will endure for generations to come.”
The post went on to highlight the man his family will forever remember him by.
“The Iron Sheik..transcended the realm of sports entertainment. With his larger-than-life persona, incredible charisma, and unparalleled in-ring skills, he captivated audiences around the globe,” read the post.
Sheik is survived by his wife of 47 years, Caryl, and four children, and five grandchildren.
When is The Iron Sheik funeral?
As of now, the funeral arrangement of the late Sheik has not been disclosed by his family.
