Wrestler Jay Briscoe, who had a stellar career as a pro-wrestler for the faction Briscoe Brothers along with his brother Mark for the promotion Ring of Honor (ROH), has died at the age of 38 in a car accident.
News of Briscoe’s death was first revealed by All Elite Wrestling owner Tony Khan. AEW acquired ROH in 2022.
The two brothers, whose real names are Jamin Pugh and Mark Pugh, had a great run at ROH, having won a record 13 World Tag Team Championships.
Who is Mark Briscoe?
Mark Briscoe, the brother of Jay Briscoe, was born on January 18, 1985. The brothers were born in the town of Laurel in Delaware’s Sussex County.
The Pugh brothers were footballers in their school team, but were avid fans of pro-wrestling while growing up. The two brothers made their entry into the business at East Coast Wrestling Association (ECWA), following which they joined Combat Zone Wrestling.
Their most notable stint in any wrestling promotion was in ROH, where they stayed from 2002 to 2022.
The Briscoe brothers held the ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Championship once. In 2022, he and Jay were announced as the inaugural inductees into the ROH Hall of Fame.
They have also wrestled in Japan, working for New Japan Pro-Wrestling (NJPW), where they held the IWDP Tag Team Championship once, and the NEVER Openweight 6-Man Tag Team Championship twice. They are former GHC Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Champions at Pro Wrestling Noah.
In this new era of honor, with their Supercard of Honor 2022 and Death before Dishonor 2022 fights with FTR, Jay and Mark were involved in two of the greatest tag matches Ring of the Honor has ever experienced.
