Richard Petty Wife: Meet Lynda Petty

Lynda Petty, born on March 6, 1942, was the wife of seven-time NASCAR champion Richard Petty. She was an actress, known for Cars (2006), ESPN SportsCentury (1999) and Petty Blue (2010).

Lynda was born in Level Cross, North Carolina, which is also Richard’s hometown. The two grew up in the same area and first met when they were children.

They began dating when they were teenagers and got married on February 15, 1958 and had four children: Kyle Petty, Rebecca Petty Moffit, Lisa Petty Luck and Sharon Farlow.

She played an instrumental role in her husband’s early racing career, serving as his biggest supporter and confidante. She was often seen by his side at races.

Unfortunately, Lynda passed away on March 25, 2014, after a long battle with cancer. She was 72 years old. Her death was a huge loss for Richard and the entire racing community, who mourned the passing of a beloved figure.

In honor of Lynda’s legacy, the Petty family established the Lynda Petty Memorial Fund, which raises money for several charities, including the RPM Foundation and Victory Junction, a camp for children with chronic medical conditions.
