Van Conner was an American rock musician best known as the bassist for Screaming Trees. He was born on March 17, 1967.
Conner established the band Explosive Generation in high school with his brother Gary Lee Conner and Mark Pickerel as bass players.
With the addition of singer Mark Lanegan in 1985, the band transformed into Screaming Trees. The band went from their birthplace Ellensburg, Washington to Seattle in the late 1980s to join that city’s emerging alternative rock scene.
Conner was a member of Screaming Trees for seven studio albums before the band disbanded in 2000. Conner launched the side project Solomon Grundy while still in Screaming Trees, in which he performed lead vocals and guitar.

That band issued an album in 1990, and Conner was also a member of Dinosaur Jr.’s live lineup at the time.
He later launched Gardener, a side project that published an album in 1999. After Screaming Trees disbanded, Conner worked as a studio musician and formed many other alternative rock bands, including VALIS and Musk Ox.
